I had a high school basketball coach that didn’t let us play if our grades weren’t up to her standards. Growing up kids in my neighborhood didn’t want to become doctors or police officers they wanted to be basketball and football stars. The movie is about Ken Carter, a successful sporting goods store owner, who accepts the job as a basketball coach for his old high school in the poor area of Richmond, California, where he was an elite athlete.
