They have tapered edges and are STC rated between 60 and 80 depending on wall construction. 545 works well even on low-frequency noise too. Like Mass Loaded Vinyl, Green Glue will remain flexible and absorb noise rather than transmit it. Green Glue is applied to a new layer of sheetrock in a completely random pattern, then the layer of drywall is screwed over your current ceiling. Can be used for both wall and ceiling applications. I have 2 control room in my pro studio. Just wanted to comment on the exaggerated claims made for the air gap. Both Rooms are "room within rooms", but one has each of it's 2 walls covered in drywall layers on both sides (ie, 4 layers) and the other only has the extreme inner and extreme outer covered as it was suggested by my acoustician the the sound loss would be similar.
